A UN youth conference 2026 is an official or UN-affiliated event that gives young people a platform to engage with global issues, influence policy, and connect with changemakers worldwide. From the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Youth Forum to model-UN style gatherings, 2026 offers several United Nations youth conferences — some fully funded — open to students and young leaders everywhere.
This guide explains what UN youth conferences involve, which to target, who is eligible, and how to apply.
What Is a UN Youth Conference?
A UN youth conference is a gathering connected to the United Nations system where young people aged roughly 16 to 35 discuss the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), human rights, climate, and peace. These events combine high-level dialogue with workshops and networking, giving youth a genuine voice in global affairs.
Types of UN Youth Events in 2026
- ECOSOC Youth Forum — the flagship UN platform for youth voices on the SDGs.
- UN agency youth summits — hosted by bodies such as UNESCO, UNICEF, and UN Environment.
- Model UN and simulations — practising diplomacy and negotiation.
- Partner youth conferences — independent events aligned with UN goals.
Are UN Youth Conferences Fully Funded?
Some are. Certain UN and partner events offer fully funded or partially funded places covering travel, accommodation, and meals, while others are self-funded or virtual. Because funded seats are limited and competitive, apply early with a strong application.
Who Is Eligible?
Most UN youth conferences welcome young people from any country, often aged 16 to 35, including students, activists, and young professionals. Interest in the SDGs and global issues is valued, and many events prioritise diverse representation.
